uPowerTek Launches New Constant-Voltage Driver with <0.2W No-Load Power

Designed for outdoor equipment that remains connected while its loads operate intermittently, the new fixed-output driver helps reduce no-load energy use while keeping 320W available for active operating periods.

Designed for systems that wait longer than they run

Across smart shading, outdoor signage, landscape lighting and automation equipment, the operating pattern is often similar: the system remains connected to AC power, the controller stays online, and motors, actuators or LED loads run only when required. Even when the visible load has stopped, the power supply itself remains energized.

For equipment manufacturers, this makes no-load power a system-level consideration. The lower the driver’s own consumption during the long waiting period, the more flexibility remains for controllers, sensors and wireless communication within the equipment’s standby-energy target.

To address this operating reality, uPowerTek has launched the BLD-320-V024-NNS, a fixed-output 24V constant-voltage LED driver rated at 320W, with no-load power consumption below 0.2W.

What <0.2W no-load power means for the system

At 0.2W, continuous no-load operation for one full year represents approximately 1.75 kWh. For one unit, the number is small by design. Across projects with hundreds or thousands of continuously connected devices, however, every fraction of a watt becomes part of the total energy profile.

The reduced no-load loss also gives system designers more room to allocate power to the functions that must remain active. For example, if the complete equipment has a 1W standby target and the power stage accounts for less than 0.2W, more of the remaining budget can be reserved for the controller, communications module and sensors.

In sealed outdoor installations, lower no-load loss also helps reduce unnecessary heat generation during long inactive periods. This is especially relevant where the power supply is installed inside a compact, weather-protected or moisture-prone enclosure.

320W at 24V when the system becomes active

Low no-load consumption addresses the waiting period, but the system still needs sufficient power when it starts working. The BLD-320-V024 provides a fixed 24V constant-voltage output with a rated power of 320W, supporting applications in which motors, actuators and LED lighting may operate at the same time.

This combination – 320W during active operation and less than 0.2W at no load – is intended for equipment that stays connected much longer than it runs. IP67 protection further supports integration into outdoor, damp and sealed installation environments, subject to the requirements of the complete application.

Application areas

  • Smart shading and window systems: motorized curtains, outdoor blinds, louvered pergolas, skylights and window actuators.
  • Outdoor signage and commercial lighting: lightboxes, illuminated signs, shopfront installations and scheduled LED lighting.
  • Architectural and landscape lighting: facade outlines, wall washers, courtyard lighting and other systems that remain connected between lighting periods.
  • Outdoor automation and access control: gates, ventilation windows, greenhouse actuators, access-control cabinets and warning lights.
  • Self-service and unattended equipment: cabinets, terminals and auxiliary lighting or actuator systems that remain powered throughout the year.

A fixed 24V power platform for long standby periods

The new BLD-320-V024 is positioned for a clear operating pattern: long-term connection to AC power, an always-online controller, intermittent motor or lighting operation, outdoor or moisture-prone installation, and a system-level standby-energy requirement.
